930 local trains will be cancelled, Mumbaikars advised to do WFH for three days
The Central Railway has announced the cancellation of 930 local trains from Friday to Sunday in view of the expansion of platforms. While 63 hours of work will start in Thane from Thursday night, 36 hours of work will start at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) from Friday night and both works will be completed on June 2.
CSMT and Thane are stations where there is a lot of congestion. Central Railway has sought additional bus services during this block. For three days, final work will be done to expand platforms 10 and 11 at CSMT to accommodate 24 coach trains and to widen Thane platform 5/6 by 2 to 3 meters to reduce congestion.
Central Railway wants to complete the work of platform walls and flooring soon. Usually it takes 6 months to complete such work. Central Railway will use modular platform construction technology with precast blocks to complete the work on time, which is possibly a first for Indian Railways.
Central Railway on Wednesday formally announced the cancellation of 930 local train services, premature termination of 444 services and early start of 446 services between Friday and Sunday. Central Railway has requested all establishments to ask their respective employees to work from home or reduce the number of passengers in any other possible way on these days.
