Organ donation is the need of the hour and if awareness is created among the citizens, it will help to save many lives. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed that the first ‘Organ Awareness Park’ in the state will be set up in Thane to create public awareness about organ donation. Also, Chief Minister Shinde said that the government is positive about starting such kind of parks in other cities of the state by the Municipalities and Municipal Councils.
This park will be built on a six thousand square meter land at Community Park, Pokhran Road No. 2. An information booklet related to organ donation will be made available at this place and replicas of organs and cells of kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, small intestine, eyes, skin, bones, hands will be erected in the proposed park. Also, Chief Minister Shinde said that the information regarding these organs will be posted on a big board there.
Scientific information regarding organ donation will be given here. Specially, organ donation pledge form will be made available to citizens in this park. He said that the citizens who want to fill this application will be filled there and that application will be handed over to the office of the State Organ and Cell Transplantation Institute for registration.
One brain dead person can give life to 8 people by donating organs. In the past few years, there has been a huge increase in the number of patients with organ failure. Due to the progress in the medical world, the organ transplant surgery is becoming successful in a big way. Therefore, a large number of patients are coming forward for organ transplant surgery. But there is a big difference between the number of organ donation from brain dead person and the number of patients who need organ. To eliminate it, it is necessary to donate brain dead organs on a large scale.
