Virar-Alibag multi-purpose highway project to start actual work next year

Mumbai, Dt. 2
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to start the actual work of the Virar-Alibag multi-purpose highway project, which has been stalled for the past few years.
The land acquisition work has been speeded up and MSRDC is planning to complete the land acquisition by May. It is likely that the tender process for the road work will be carried out after the coming month of May.
The project was of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). However, as ‘MMRDA’ was unable to get the project underway, the state government finally handed over the project to ‘MSRDC’.
More than 1,300 hectares of land will have to be acquired for this project, which is 128 kilometers long and has 16 lanes. 22 thousand crores of funds are required for this land acquisition.
