Thane: Man sentenced to seven years imprisonment for rape
A district court here sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping a woman in Vikramgarh taluka of Palghar district, Maharashtra. In an order issued on 6 February, District Judge Rajesh S Gupta found Nitin Mere guilty of the offenses registered under Sections 376 (rape) and 417 (cheating) and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the accused. Prosecutor Rekha Hirwale told the court that the victim and the accused worked at a construction site in Virar and were having an affair.
She said that the victim raped her between 2013 and 2014, after promising to marry her. However, when the victim later learned that MER was planning to marry another girl, she felt cheated and filed a police complaint.
