Rishi Sunak belongs to a Punjabi Khatri family from Gujranwala. Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton, Hampshire, England to father Yashveer and mother Usha Sunak. He is the eldest of three siblings. His grandparents were born in Punjab province, India, and emigrated to the UK with their children from East Africa in the 1960s.

Rishi Sunak married Indian billionaire, Infosys founder, N. R. Narayana Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murthy. They two met while studying at Stanford University and then got married. He has two daughters.
