Ensuring proper care of girl child, Tamil Nadu creates record by opening 16 lakh postal saving accounts
Chennai: With initiating saving schemes for girls, the state of Tamil Nadu tops in mobilisation of deposits for “Selva MagalSemippu Thittam” (Sukanya Samriddi Scheme) across the country with 16 lakh postal saving accounts.
The Chie Post master General of Tamil Nadu informed that the scheme meant for girls continued to get great response from the people in the state and creating a record of 16 lakh accounts since the inception of the scheme. He pointed out that more than 1500 post offices, out of a total of 6717 post offices in Tamil Nadu have already migrated to the Darpan system.
As per the decision taken by the ministry of External Affairs Ministry to utilise the premises of post offices, they have already opened two post office passport seva kendras in two cities of the state. The PO had migrated fully to digital platform under Darpan (Digital advancement of Rural Post offices for a New India) project recently which enables transactions to be transmitted online through a hand-held device.
