Chhattisgarh cuts ribbon for inflation: VAT concession ends, petrol diesel Rs. 2.25 from today costly
And Congress shows its colors as the Congressi Chhattisgarh government has abolished VAT concession in petrol and diesel. This has increased the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.25 per liter. The new order came into force from today. The price of petrol in Raipur was Rs 70.85 on Wednesday, now from Thursday people are getting at Rs 73.10. Similarly, diesel has increased from Rs 69.27 to Rs 71.52. However, the state government still claims that even after removing the concession, petrol and diesel will be available in Chhattisgarh at a lower price than other states.
In October 2018, when the price of petrol and diesel was continuously increasing, at that time the BJP government had given a reduction of Rs. 2 while giving relief to the people. On 5 October 2018, the VAT rate on diesel and petrol was reduced from 25 to 21 percent. The new Congress government has now brought it back to 25 percent. The new tax will remain in force till 31 March 2020. In the order issued by Reena Baba Saheb Kangale, Secretary, Department of Commercial Taxes, it has been said that the old notification has been revised and a new notification has been issued.

In July 2019, there was an increase of Rs 2 per liter in the form of excise duty and cess on diesel and petrol by the Center. Excise duty and cess in diesel are Rs 15.83 and on petrol is Rs 19.98 per liter. Presently, petrol in the state is being sold at Rs 70.85 and diesel at Rs 69.27 per liter. The VAT in diesel is around 12.85 and in petrol is Rs 13.95. Compared to the cess being charged by the central government, there is a reduction of 3 rupees in diesel and 6 rupees in the price of petrol.
