Anti-CAA protests keep in Tamil Nadu

Protests against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act continued here on Thursday, involving a group of activists, with the authors demonstrating against the law. Writers and social workers participated in the demo against the amended Citizenship Act and were joined by various political parties and organizations in opposition to the CAA.

Senior CPI leader R Nallakannu, founder of Viduthalai Chiruthigal Kachchi (VCK) and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan, DMK MP Kanimozhi, State President of CPI-M. Balakrishnan, IUML state leader, and others joined the protest.

Songs were sung during the CAA protest, even when agitators raised slogans to the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu to support the law.

The country is witnessing a series of protests against the CAA, which envisages giving Indian nationality to members of the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan by 31 December 2014. The two Houses of Parliament had earlier approved the bill in this regard.
