Opponents’ confusion over falling rates of onion, cotton Mumbai, Dt. 28 Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed in the Legislative Assembly today that the state government is on the side of onion producers and procurement of onion from ‘NAFED’ has started.
On the second day in the budget session today, the opposition took an aggressive stance on the issue of falling prices of onion and cotton. After the opposition protested strongly on the steps of the Legislative Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Ajit Pawar demanded to leave all other issues in the House and discuss only the problem of onion, cotton, tur and gram farmers. After that, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed that NAFED has started buying onions in the state.
Our government is fair to the farmers and we have helped the affected farmers more than the norm. The procurement has started as Nafed was requested to purchase additional onion. So far 2.38 lakh MT of onion has been procured. Where shopping centers are closed, they will be opened. There is no ban on onion export either. Therefore, help will be announced to the onion farmers as per requirement, said the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, after the opposition started creating confusion, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis got angry and replied that if the opposition has different information, you should bring the rights violation. We should decide once and for all whether we want to find a way out on the farmers’ issues or do politics.
