Soon five thousand electric buses of ‘ST’, Important decisions in the meeting of ST Mahamandal


Five thousand electric buses and two thousand diesel buses will be purchased on lease in the fleet of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation. Also, 5000 diesel buses will be converted to LNG in a phased manner.
The 302nd meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation was held on Friday at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Transport Department Principal Secretary Parag Jain-Nainotia, Corporation Managing Director Shekhar Chenne, Labor Commissioner Suresh Jadhav, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar along with senior officials of ST Corporation, Transport Department attended the meeting.
5 thousand 150 electric buses will be taken on lease in the fleet of the State Transport Corporation, approval was given to take 2 thousand buses approved in the previous meeting. On this occasion, the Chief Minister gave approval to increase it and buy 5 thousand 150 electric buses. The Chief Minister has also approved in principle to take a loan from the Asian Development Bank to purchase these buses.
Five thousand buses running on diesel will be converted to liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel. Due to this, LNG will be supplied at a rate 20 to 25 percent lower than the prevailing rate of diesel. Also, since the entire bus is air-conditioned, passengers can travel with less money. The Chief Minister also clarified that this work will be done by the supplier company and initially the corporation will not have to make any investment.
