Man Condemned to 5 years for robbery – Maharashtra

A Maharashtra court has in 2016 sentenced a 35-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for robbery at a liquor store. District Judge AS Pandharikar in his order on Saturday convicted the accused Salim alias Altaf Syed under the provisions of sections 392 and 397 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code, and the Bombay Police Act.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,200 on him. Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hirwale told the court that on July 22, 2016, the accused went to a liquor store in Rabodi area of ​​Thane city and bought a liquor bottle.

When the cashier offered him a bill of Rs 1,050, the accused got angry and refused to pay the money. Meanwhile, as another customer paid Rs 1,100 for his bill, the accused picked up that money. The accused then shot a knife at the cashier and threatened the other customer with dire consequences before running away with the money.

The prosecution told the court that this caused an uproar in the area and some shopkeepers in the vicinity closed their establishments out of fear. The cashier later filed a police complaint following which the accused was arrested. The judge said in his order that the prosecution proved the charges against the accused, “who need to be convicted and sentenced”.
