#MahalaxmiExpress: All passengers on board rescued

It’s very relieving news that hundreds of passengers onboard the Mumbai-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express which was stranded near Vangani in Thane district since Friday night have been safely evacuated. More than 12 hours long rescue operation was successfully executed with the help of teams of NDRF, RPF and flood rescue team from Navy. A special train has been arranged for all the passengers from Kalyan to Kolhapur.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in his tweet thanked the forces saying, “Happy to inform that all the passengers stranded in #MahalaxmiExpress have been evacuated safely. Congratulations & Thank you to @NDRFHQ , Army, @indiannavy , Airforce, Police, Indian Railways, Local administration and the entire team for this coordinated & great efforts!”

Thane District Collector, Rajesh Narvekar informed that all the rescued passengers will soon be taken to nearby Badlapur station via a relief train. He further informed that the Railways have arranged for a detailed medical check-up necessary treatment and refreshment for all these passengers. He added that once the formalities are done they all will be sent to Kolhapur via Manmad by a special train which will leave by 5 p.m.

Home Minister Amit Shah today praised the efforts of the NDRF, the three services and other agencies in rescuing passengers of a train stranded in Maharashtra’s Thane for 17 hours due to flooding of tracks after heavy rains.

In a tweet, Minister Shah said 700 passengers stranded on Mahalaxmi Express due to heavy rain have been safely rescued. He said the central government is closely monitoring the entire operation.
