India’s first voter dies
Shyam Saran Negi of Kinnaur, who held the distinction of being India’s first voter, has passed away. This year also special arrangements were made by the Election Commission to take their votes. He was brought on the red carpet and the vote was taken with all due respect.
Being old, the polling team had reached his house and took vote through postal ballot before the date of polling. Shyam Saran Negi had cast his first vote in the first general election of the country and since then he never missed a chance to cast his vote.
Shyam Saran Negi was 106 years old and he never missed an opportunity to vote. Shyam Saran Negi had cast his vote for Himachal Pradesh elections on 2nd November itself. He had been ill for a few days.
District Collector of Kinnaur, Abid Hussain said that preparations are being made by the district administration for the last rites of Shyam Saran Negi. He will be given farewell with full respect and a band has also been arranged for this. Shyam Saran Negi was born on July 1, 1917. He was working as a teacher in Kalpa, Kinnaur.
