To reduce the amount of dust in the air, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will set up dust reduction systems at five places namely Kalanagar, Mankhurd, Hajiali, Dahisar and Mulund check points.
The air quality level has deteriorated in Mumbai for the past few days. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have given orders to take immediate measures. A meeting of the officials of various departments of the municipal administration was held at the municipal headquarters to consider this.
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation will soon come up with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to control air pollution. This procedure will be used to control dust generated from construction and demolition works. Along with this, measures will be taken to reduce the dust on the roads and to reduce the smell of garbage. A treatment center will be set up at Gorai for the Western Suburbs and for the City and Eastern Suburbs division to process the waste/road generated from construction and demolition works.
9 new electric brooms will be purchased to clean the road by removing dust. At present, the Municipal Corporation has 27 mechanical sweepers.
Air Quality Monitoring Center will be set up at five locations namely Shivdi, Govandi, Pantnagar (Ghatkopar), Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Botanical Garden in Byculla and Charkop (Kandivali). Task orders have been given for that. All these five centers are planned to be operational by the next 15.
