BJP supports NCP’s applause – Shekhar Joshi
Mumbai Dt. 9
Even though the pre-election alliance of National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP has got a clear majority in Nagaland, why is the BJP strangling the NCP? Or is this a sign that in the future the echelons of power in Maharashtra will also follow the path of Nagaland?
Seven MLAs of Sharad Pawar’s NCP have been elected in Nagaland and the NCP has decided to participate in power instead of working as an opposition party. NCP said that it has taken this decision for the wider interest of Nagaland state. NCP also says that we are supporting Nagaland Chief Minister Rio as we have an old relationship with him but our support is not for BJP.
Nagaland has a total of 60 seats and 31 required for a clear majority. The pre-poll alliance of ND PP and BJP won a total of 37 seats. Rio took oath as Chief Minister with 37 seats including 25 of NDPPA and 12 of BJP. NCP became the third party in this place. NPP got five seats while Naga People Friend, Lajp (Ram Vilas Paswan) and Ramdas Athawale’s RPI got two seats each. JDU got one seat
That is, even though the NDPP and BJP have got a clear majority of 37 seats in the 60 seat Nagaland Legislative Assembly, now the Nationalist Congress Party has come into power saying that they want to participate in power.
On the one hand Sharad Pawar takes the initiative to unite all the opposition parties against the BJP in the whole country and participates in power in Nagaland without opposition. After the victory of Dhangekar of Congress in the Kasba Assembly by-election, Sharad Pawar also expressed his reaction that change has started in the country. NCP may have initiated this change by joining the power of NDPP and BJP in Nagaland.
In 2014, the NCP announced its support to the BJP in Maharashtra without the BJP asking for it. Sharad Pawar had said then that we are giving this unconditional support so that we do not want another election crisis in Maharashtra. Then in 2019 BJP and Ajit Pawar were sworn in but this government collapsed within hours. A few days after that
In this case, first Jayant Patil, then Sharad Pawar, then Devendra Fadnavis and then again Sharad Pawar made statements.
The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the center was toppled by just one vote a few years ago. After listening to Vajpayee’s speech, not a single member sitting in the House had the sense to support the BJP.
Now on the matter of Nagaland, Pawar has given our support to Rio, we have an old relationship with him. They said that our support is not for BJP, then why didn’t they suggest the same wisdom when Vajpayee’s government fell by one vote? Pawar could have said that we are not supporting BJP but we are supporting Vajpayee. But Pawar must have feared that if we go with BJP now, his progressive personality (hypocrite, begdi) will crack and may be dangerous for his future course. And that is why Pawar should not have supported BJP then. But let’s see how destiny works, the BJP which was rejected by other political parties including Sharad Pawar is sitting on the head of all in 2014, 2019. Now it is certain that there will be a hat-trick in 2024 as well
All in all, Pawar’s math was wrong. Otherwise the picture of Sharad Pawar would have looked different today. The question is, why is the BJP, after rubbing hands once in Maharashtra in 2019 with unreliable, mysterious and credibilityless men like Pawar, now in Nagaland, when there is no need for it, why is the BJP taking the reins of the NCP and Sharad Pawar? Does the BJP fear that it will not get success like last time in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra? As his begum or even now by sending Ajit Pawar and some MLAs to BJP, Pawar wants to start the winds of change in Maharashtra like Nagaland?
NCP applauded BJP in Nagaland and BJP applauded. Rio and we have got a clear majority, we don’t want this support, you should sit in the opposition party, I have not yet seen or read that Modi and Shah have said, that means it has been done by talking and deciding at the top level. BJP should have avoided this clap given by NCP.
