For the first time in the country, Maharashtra Police will organize an international marathon in Mumbai on 9 February. Officials said about 15,000 runners will participate in the marathon.
A state police force is organizing an international marathon for the first time, they claimed. Maharashtra Director General of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal on Wednesday launched the event website.
The marathon will act as a bridge between the people and the police and will increase communication between them, Jaiswal said. Inspector-General of Police Krishna Prakash said the marathon would start from the iconic Gateway of India in South Mumbai and would pass through the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The theme will be “Health Run”.
In addition to the regular 42 km marathon, there will be a 21 km half marathon and 10 km and 5 km runs. At least 5,000 police personnel are expected to attend the event. Krishna Prakash said that during the marathon, a bicycle ride will be organized on February 2.
In addition, police in every district will organize a ‘Mahila Dawood’ (women’s run) on 31 January to promote women empowerment and security.
