Senior Sports Journalist, Commentator V.V. Karmarkar passed away

Senior Sports Journalist, Sports Editor and Senior Sports Commentator V.V. Karmarkar passed away this morning in Andheri. He was 85 years old. Karmarkar was instrumental in providing detailed coverage of sports news, especially domestic sports news, in the Marathi daily.
Karmarkar participated in the first batch of ‘Maharashtra Times’ daily. Karmarkar originally from Nashik. His father was a doctor. He also wanted his son to become a doctor. But doing MA, he chose a different path of journalism and that too sports journalist. English newspapers used to have a large number of sports reports. However, when there was not much in Marathi, they should be brought and given to the Marathi world to read, so he continued his writing. For this he also got the support of senior editors Dr. B. Karnik, Govind Talwalkar. He retired from Maharashtra Times after long service.
Karmarkar, who was formed in the framework of socialist ideas, constantly insisted on transparent governance throughout his life. Along with cricket, Karmarkar’s writings have played a huge role in internationalizing the indigenous sports of Khokho, Kabaddi, and wrestling along with those organizations. In Marathi newspapers, daily whole pages on the subject of sports were started because of him. He has done running commentary on various sports on AIR and TV. He used to insist that if the Marathi language is to be made fluent and effective, it must first be simple.
Karmarkar was cremated at Parshiwada crematorium in Andheri

Took the initiative in starting a separate page for sports affairs in newspapers. English words in the field of sports have been given easy and catchy Marathi synonyms. His contribution will always be remembered.
