No more chaos on ticketing counters! Mumbai to soon implement ‘One Nation-One Card’ system for commuters

Viewing to eliminate the hassle of making different passes for busses or trains or standing in long lines to get a ticket, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has sent a recommendation to the Railway Board to implement the concept of ‘One Nation, One Card’.

With this, Mumbaikars will be able to use special debit or credit cards issued by banks under the RuPay scheme to book tickets across all transports in the city. The entire project, including the cost of setting up card tapping machines would cost a whopping Rs 200 crore.

While the MRVC is seeking approval to implement the same on the local train network, if the Railway Board gives the nod, then Mumbai will be the first city to implement this ambitious project.

“The system slates to work in a simple manner. Money will be transferred into these special cards through e-wallets and the commuter will then enter their start and end destinations in the card tapping machine. Once that is done, the money will be deducted from the card and a ticket will be issued”, the MRVC official said.

“Once the permission is given, the system will be installed on all railway stations and commuters can start using their transport cards”, he added.
