It has received several awards in the past as well including the recent addition of the Central Board of Irrigation and Power award for speedy execution of the multipurpose project. It has also been recognised for utilitarian use of water resources, better planning, and implementation.

The National River-Linking Project, which works under the aegis of the Indian Ministry of Water Resources, was designed to overcome the deficit in water in the country. As a part of this plan, surplus water from the Himalayan Rivers is to be transferred to the peninsular rivers of India. Also, Hydro Electric Plants will get sufficient water and around 1000 megawatts of electricity can be produced. Even villages will get 24 hours power supply with Polavaram project.

After Polavaram project gets completed, no question of scarcity of water for the farmers for both the crops per year will exist as 68 TMCs of water is expected to be available for the farmers for the second crop.

Congratulating the irrigation official for achieving the prestigious award, CM Naidu had directed the officials to complete the Relief and Rehabilitation packages on war-footing.

“Polavaram is the most prestigious multi-faceted project in the country. Diaphragm Wall, Earth Come Rock Phil Dam, Massive Radial Gates Whilst Everything Special. The objective of the project is future of Andhra Pradesh”, Chandrababu Naidu said in a tweet.
