Wardha: Woman lecturer set on fire by stalker dies

Last week, a 25-year-old female lecturer was abducted by a stalker in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, a police officer said. He died in a hospital in Nagpur on Monday morning. Ankita Pisudde, a resident of Hinganghat town in Wardha, suffered ill after burning 40 percent on 3 February when she was allegedly burnt by Vikesh Nagarle (27) while she was going to her college.

He was undergoing treatment at Orange City Hospital and Research Center, Nagpur, about 840 km from here. Hinganghat Police Inspector Satyaveer Bandivar said, “The doctors of the hospital declared him dead at 6.55 am today.”

He said that after his death heavy security was deployed in Hinganghat to avoid any law and order problem.

Several locals, mostly women and college students, took out a march in Wardha city last Thursday demanding the death penalty to the accused. The state government has appointed noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam as a special public prosecutor in the case.

According to the victim’s family, Nagarale had been harassing her for a long time. He was arrested within a few hours of the incident and a case was registered under the relevant sections.

Police said Nagrel and the woman were friends until two years ago when he broke up with her due to her “irrational behavior”.
