Thackeray Cousins Signal Possible Political Reunion: MNS-Shiv Sena (UBT) Alliance Not Off the Table

In a potential game-changer for Maharashtra politics, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has indicated willingness to collaborate with his cousin and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, hinting at a thaw in relations between the once-estranged Thackeray cousins.

Speaking in an interview with filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar, Raj Thackeray remarked, “There was never any real quarrel between us. Even if there were disagreements, they are in the past. For the sake of Maharashtra and the Marathi people, all Marathi leaders must unite under one platform.”

Responding to the statement, Uddhav Thackeray echoed similar sentiments during a recent public address. “Let us rise above minor differences. I appeal to all Marathi-speaking people and leaders to come together for the welfare of Maharashtra.”

Although the remarks have sparked excitement and speculation, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut clarified that there have been no formal talks or agreements regarding an alliance. “These are emotional expressions, not concrete political decisions—at least not as of now,” he told the media.

The conversation around a possible alliance comes in the wake of a controversial decision by the Maharashtra government to make Hindi compulsory in primary education—a move both MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) have openly opposed, citing concerns over cultural and linguistic identity.

Political analysts view this moment as a potential turning point. With both parties facing increased pressure in Maharashtra’s dynamic political landscape, a reconciliation between the Thackeray cousins could reshape alliances ahead of the next state elections.

Whether this marks the beginning of a strategic realignment or remains a symbolic gesture is yet to be seen. For now, all eyes remain on Matoshree and Shivtirth.
