Symbolic hunger strike of contract workers of ‘Mahavitran’

Pune, Dt. 10
Maharashtra Electricity Contract Work Unions (affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh) of Mahavitaran Company in Pune to clear various pending issues of contract workers in ‘Mahavitaran’
A symbolic fast was observed in front of the regional director’s office.
Rahul Bodke, deputy general secretary of the organization, aggrieved workers from Satara and other office bearers were on hunger strike.
Electricity Board Apprenticeship Organization Satara, a contractor, was awarded the contract of Mahavitaran in Satara district. They illegally deducted Rs 1100 per month from the salaries of many electricity contract workers in the name of insurance.
When the six workers brought this matter to the attention of Mahavitaran Satara administration and Satara Police, a criminal case was registered against this organization in Satara Police and the said contractor was arrested. However, this contractor did not hire these six electricity contract workers from January 1, 2023 due to the vindictiveness of the complaint.
Even after a criminal case was registered against the contractor, the Mahavitaran Satara administration again awarded the tender to him. In this regard, the organization has also complained to the administration and Hon’ble Assistant Labor Commissioner’s office in Satara. These six contract workers have not been hired despite the orders given by Assistant Labor Commissioner Satara and Superintendent Engineer Satara. A fast was held in protest against it.
Deputy Commissioner of Labor Abhay Geete assured that justice will be given to the workers and action will be taken against the guilty organization by holding a tripartite meeting at the senior level on this issue. The fast was then called off
The government should take immediate action regarding the pending issues of the workers, otherwise the Maharashtra Electricity Contract Workers’ Unions will go on hunger strike in all the districts of Maharashtra, the association’s president Nilesh Kharat and general secretary Sachin Mengale have warned in a public meeting held at this time.
