Small bribe but huge fault! CBI arrests NPCC officers bribing Rs 33 lakh for passing construction bills of BSF outputs

Viewing to uproot the corruption from society, the Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested several people for alleged bribery by National Projects Construction Corporation Limited officers in clearing bills pertaining to construction of BSF border outposts.

Although the details of the arrested people are awaited, the CBI officials have started detailed investigation in the matter, further viewing to clear the minor details in relation.

“It is alleged that NPCC Zonal Manager Rakesh Mohan Kotwal, Manger NPC Latiful Pasha had demanded a bribe of Rs 33 lakh from Anish Baid, owner of the Shree Gautam Construction Company Ltd for passing the bills for construction of Border Security Force (BSF) border outposts done by his firm”, the officials added.

Carrying out searches at 18 locations in Delhi, Silchar, Jalpaiguri, Guwahati and Gwalior, the CBI has arrested seven persons, including two senior officers of the NPCC Limited, for alleged bribery in clearing bills pertaining to construction of BSF border outposts.

Post independence era necessitated all around multifarious developmental activities in the country. As giant infrastructure projects were required to be taken up for which neither the private sector nor the State Government Construction Departments were equipped in machinery, a legend solemnized as NPCC was incorporated on 9th January 1957 under current Ministry of Jal Shakti to undertake Irrigation and Hydel Projects.

It acted as a deterrent on price to free run private construction companies. Subsequently NPCC diversified in other construction fields, creating land marks by completing innumerable projects even in remote areas where private sector companies did not venture.
