No respite to Assam from flood fury; Army, NDRF act swiftly evacuating people to safer places

Drooling under the water waves of flood, there is no respite seen in Assam because of the incessant rains and new areas been undated. Nearly 26 lakh people are affected in the current wave of flood in 103 revenue circles in 28 districts of Assam. Coming to people’s rescue the NDRF, SDRF and local authorities evacuated around 9 thousand people on Sunday.

The Army, NDRF, SDRF and local people are carrying out the rescue operation. Relief materials including baby foods are being distributed in the flood hit areas. Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said that district administrations have been instructed to provide all possible help to the affected people. He also informed that there was no shortage of foodstuffs in the state.

The worst hit districts are Dhemaji, Dhubri and Morigaon. The state Government has set up over 300 relief camps and more than 16,000 inmates are taking shelter in the camps. Over 87,000 hectares of cropped area have been affected due to flood. Vigil has been intensified in the Kaziranga National Park and other wildlife areas to prevent poaching as most of the parks are under water now.

The Brahmaputra River in Assam is continuously flowing above the danger level. Also states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are facing similar issues. In Bihar, flood situation continues to be grim in northern & eastern parts. Around 18 lakh people in 10 districts have been affected by the fury of the flood. Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Araria and Kishanganj districts are worst affected. 32 deaths have been reported in the past four days in flood-affected areas.

NDRF, SDRF and SSB teams have been pressed into service for relief and rescue operations. In Uttar Pradesh, many districts are facing flood like situation after torrential rain for the past few days.
