India hits back by cancelling Samjhauta Express to Pakistan

With Pakistan making a big deal with suspending the Samjhauta Express and creating a stranded situation for people, the Narendra Modi led government took a decision. India on Sunday cancelled the Samjhauta Express that runs between Delhi to Attari in Pakistan. This move comes a few days after the neighbouring nation announced cancelling the operation from its side on August 8.

Pakistan’s decision had come after the NDA government moved to revoke Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories. The Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) was quoted as saying, “Inconsequent to Pakistan’s decision to cancel Samjhauta Express 14607/14608 running between Lahore and Attari, the Samjhauta Link Express train number 14001/14002 running between Delhi and Attari also stands cancelled.”

After suspending two cross-border train services, Pakistan had suspended the Lahore-Delhi friendship bus service, in the wake of India’s Kashmir move. Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Postal Services and Communications Murad Saeed had said on Friday that in line with the decisions of the National Security Committee (NSC), the government has suspended the Dosti (friendship) bus service between Lahore and New Delhi.

Imran Khan had directed that all diplomatic channels be activated to ‘expose the brutal Indian racist regime, its design and human rights violations. He also directed Armed Forces to continue vigilance’. Describing Pakistan’s action as ‘unilateral’, New Delhi had asked Islamabad to reconsider its move and cautioned it to not interfere in Kashmir, which is an integral part of India.
