High Court disposes of Public Interest Litigation challenging cutting of excess trees- Roadblock of Metro Carshed removed

Mumbai, Dt. 10
Another hurdle in the way of Metro carshed in Aarey has been removed. The Bombay High Court has disposed of the Public Interest Litigation, which was challenged in the High Court against the tree felling which is going beyond the limit.
Bombay High Court Chief Justice S. A bench of Justice Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne refused to grant any relief to conservationist Zoroo Bathena who had appealed in this regard.
If the Tree Authority Committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has not yet taken a decision in this regard, you should apply to them properly. Or the bench also suggested to appeal in this matter to the Supreme Court which granted this permission.
Bathena had filed this public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court, questioning how MMRDA sought permission to cut 177 trees from the Municipal Tree Authority when 84 trees were given permission to be cut for the metro carshed located in Aarey Colony in Mumbai. After the Shinde-Fadnavis government decided to shift the car shed for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 project back to Aare Colony, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRDL) approached the Supreme Court to get permission to cut down some of the trees there.
