A complaint was filed at the Nagpada police station on Friday evening by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Assistant Commissioner.

An official said the complaint stated that the civic body was not able to carry out the construction work on Moreland Road as protesters set up a platform and placed chairs on the road, and also disrupted traffic movement in the area.

The police registered a case under Section 313, 314 of the BMC Act under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 313, 314 of the Indian Penal Code (as well as being carried out by several people to advance the common man).

Hundreds of women have participated in protests on Moreland Road in Nagpada since Republic Day against the amended citizenship law and the National Civil Register (NRC). The protest is similar to a gathering held in Shaheen Bagh, Delhi.

The official said that a large number of people, activists, celebrities from other parts of the city and various regions were also coming in support of the protests, following which all the activities on the roads had come to a standstill for the last two weeks.

Two days ago, a photojournalist, who was trying to enter the area for photos, was beaten by the police.
