A new proposal of the state government to the central government to purchase the building of Air India

Mumbai, Dt. 21
The Maharashtra Government has submitted a new proposal to the Central Government to purchase the 23-storey building of ‘Air India’ in the Nariman Point area for Rs 1,600 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had submitted a proposal to the Central Government to get the Air India building to the state government.
Besides the Maharashtra government, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and another government undertaking had also shown interest in buying the Air India building. But since Air India was going to be privatized, the central government had refrained from taking a decision.
Although the ownership of Air India has now come to Tata Company, the building is owned by ‘A.I. It is owned by the Asset Holding Company.
After the approval of the Union Cabinet, a decision will be taken to hand over the Air India building to the Maharashtra government.
