Big Boost to Konkan Connectivity: Sawantwadi Road Station to Get Stoppages for 3 Major Trains Including Rajdhani Express

SAWANTWADI:

In a major boost to the rail connectivity of the Konkan region, the Ministry of Railways has approved commercial halts for three prominent long-distance trains at the Sawantwadi Road railway station in Sindhudurg district. This long-awaited decision is expected to significantly ease travel for commuters and provide a major push to local tourism and the regional economy.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared this development on his social media handles, expressing his gratitude to the Central Government. The stoppage approvals come following a formal request made by the Deputy Chief Minister to the Union Railway Minister.

List of the 3 New Train Halts Approved at Sawantwadi Road:

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) – Mangaluru Express

Thiruvananthapuram Central – Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express

Lokmanym Tilak Terminus (LTT) – Thiruvananthapuram North (Kochuveli) Garib Rath Express

A Major Push for Tourism and Local Economy

The inclusion of high-speed and premium trains like the Rajdhani Express and Garib Rath Express at Sawantwadi Road will directly benefit thousands of regular commuters traveling between Mumbai, Goa, and southern states. Furthermore, since Sawantwadi is a key entry point for tourists visiting the scenic coastal belt of Sindhudurg, these halts will make the region much more accessible to travelers, boosting the local hospitality and business sectors.

”Deeply grateful to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ji for continuously supporting the development of Maharashtra and strengthening Konkan’s railway network,” Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis stated in his social media post.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by railway passenger associations and local residents across the Konkan belt.
