While the building collapsed at around 11.40 am on Tuesday, the fire tenders and three teams of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) are carrying out rescue operations looking for survivors.
“Crowded on all the four sides, the 90-year-old building housed around nine families. Two teams of the NDRF are currently at the site of the building collapse and are carrying out rescue operations”, the officials confirmed.
CM Devendra Fadnavis meanwhile has expressed deep grief over the incident, further directing the BMC to look into the matter and investigate for the case. “As the initial information I have received, around 15 families are feared trapped in the collapse. The building is around 100 yrs old. The entire focus is on rescuing the people trapped. Investigation will be done”, he said.
The BMC, earlier this week had set up a team of experts to investigate the incident of a wall collapse at Pimpripada in Malad, in which 26 people were killed. The incident happened around 2 am on July 2 when a compound wall collapsed and people living in shanties adjacent to the wall got trapped under the debris.
