PM Modi pays due respects to Vajpayee, Bapu and the National War Memorial

Noting to be one of the most significant day in the national election procedures and the NDA-led government, when the elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to swear an oath for the second consecutive term this evening, the day kicked off with him visiting the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat at the national capital.

Paying his due respects at the memorial of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, top senior BJP leaders including party chief Amit Shah, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Maneka Gandhi, Smriti Irani and JP Nadda accompanied him to Vajpayee’s memorial. “He would have been very happy to see BJP get such a great opportunity to serve people. Motivated by Atal Ji’s life and work, we will strive to enhance good governance and transform lives”, Modi said during.

Sadaiv Atal Samadhi, the lotus shaped monument dedicated to Vajpayee was inaugurated last December, a few months after his death on August 16. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had way back in an interview to a reputed television channel had claimed that NDA will one day have a seat share of more than 300 in the parliament very easily. And with Modi accomplishing the goal successfully, it marks as the superlative tribute to the veteran.

Modi then visited the National War Memorial near India Gate, the monument, spread over 40 acres which is dedicated to soldiers killed in service of the country over the decades. Yesterday, he had spent a busy evening deliberating on members of his future cabinet with BJP chief Amit Shah.

Despite a spirited campaign by the Congress as well as other opposition parties, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance returned to power with a massive win of 352 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, led from the front by Modi, managed to bag 303 seats on its own miles ahead of the Congress’s 52.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to begin by 7 pm, with nearly 8,000 guests attending an event that’s reflective of the BJP’s massive win in the elections. It will be attended by leaders of BIMSTEC countries, namely Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan, in line with the government’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

While over 10,000 security personnel from the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed, over 2,000 others will secure the route meant to be taken by PM Modi and foreign dignitaries.
