Deadly attack on the Mayor of Nagpur

Returning home from a restaurant celebrating the 24th anniversary of their wedding, two people riding a motorcycle fired at Wardha Road here, in the car of Nagpur Mayor Sandeep Joshi. He narrowly survived the attack.

Confirming the incident, the police also said that the accident occurred late Tuesday around 11.59 pm when Joshi was returning from a restaurant with his family celebrating the 24th wedding anniversary.

The official said that more than 30 friends of Joshi had joined the party and they were all returning from 10-15 vehicles. Joshi’s car was the last in the convoy. As his car reached a junction of Outer Ring Road and Wardha Road, two motorcycle-borne men fired three shots at his vehicle and escaped.

He said one bullet hit the driver’s window of his car, one at the rear seat window and the third shot at the rear windshield of the car.

“There is no injury to Joshi,” the official said. He immediately stopped the car and informed the police about the incident. “He said that the security personnel of Belthara Road Police Station immediately reached the spot and collected evidence. Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam also reached the spot late at night.

According to the police, CCTV footage of the area is being viewed and an attempt is being made to identify the registered number of the bike of the attackers. “Both the accused were wearing helmets and the person sitting behind a shot at the mayor’s vehicle,” he said.

Police said that a case has been registered in this regard under sections 307 and 34 of the Armed Act.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the attack. Its seven BJP leaders Sudhir Mungantiwar expressed concern over the matter in the state assembly, saying, “It is a serious matter that the first citizen of the city was attacked.” This shows the failure of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to maintain law and order in the state. ”

Earlier this month, Joshi received two letters in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation complaint Petty, threatening to face serious consequences for removing encroachment from the city, the official said.

He said that his official vehicle was also stolen from his residence last month, but it was found the very next day. One person was also arrested in a car theft case.
