Celebrating the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations of India and Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Bhutan Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering that both the countries will work unanimously towards strengthening relations. Discussing a wide spectrum of bilateral relations both the countries has explored new opportunities in fields of space, hydro projects and other bilateral relations.
Addressing the joint press conference PM Modi said that the countries discussed an entire spectrum of bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities to further strengthen them, India has extended a helping hand by providing Rs 4500 Cr to Bhutan for its Five Year Plan which will help the people accordingly. Hydro projects have been very important aspect between the two countries and therefore PM Modi and Bhutan PM Dr. Lotay have discussed various prospectus relating to this project and have also agreed on the tariff rates associated with it.
Adding a feather enhancing bilateral relation, India and Bhutan have added a new dimension of Space Science. Expressing happiness on this new dimension, PM Modi said that Bhutan will own benefits of South Asian Satellite with ISRO’s ground station duly getting ready in Bhutan. This will help the country thoroughly by emitting information on climate, telemedicine and other disaster relief prospects.
PM Modi further mentioned that Bhutan PM Dr. Lotay informed that the Bhutan government will launch the Rupay Card system in their country. This will highly benefit in enhancing the people to people relation between the two countries.
Arriving in India, Bhutan PM Dr. Lotay Tshering was honoured with ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of PM Narendra Modi on his first overseas visit after assuming the office of the Prime Minister of Bhutan last month.
PM Modi also expressed happiness on Bhutan PM Dr. Lotay choosing India for his first international visit and likewise four years ago, PM Modi’s first international visit was to Bhutan.
