Under the scheme, the vehicles with odd last digit registration number will be allowed on roads on odd dates and those with even last digit will ply on even dates. The scheme will be applicable from 8 AM to 8 PM, except on Sundays. Violating the rule will incur a fine of four thousand rupees.
Vehicles of President, Vice President, Prime Minister, State Governors, Chief Justice of India, Speaker of Lok Sabha, Union Ministers, Leaders of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, Chief Ministers of States and Union Territories will also be exempted from the scheme. However, there will be no exemption for the vehicles of Delhi Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues. Privately owned CNG vehicles will not be exempted this time.
At several places, the Air Quality Index (AQI) even reached 999 marks, in the ‘hazardous’ category. Today, the overall AQI in Delhi was still in the ‘severe’ category. Several flights were diverted and more delayed due to poor visibility at Delhi airport. Schools in the capital will remain closed till Tuesday, as a public health emergency was declared. The third edition of odd-even scheme road space rationing scheme kicked in from 8 am today, with only even-numbered non-transport vehicles allowed on Delhi roads on the first day. Meanwhile, the Arvind Kejriwal government continues to take measures to tackle the severe air pollution such as sprinkling water on roads to settle the dust. The Centre also reviewed the situation with the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab and announced that the cabinet secretary would monitor it on a daily basis. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
