Woman Accusing Maharashtra Minister of Harassment Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹1 Crore

A woman who accused Maharashtra minister Jaykumar Gore of harassment has allegedly been arrested for extortion, police said on Friday.

Gore represents the Man Assembly constituency in the Satara district of western Maharashtra and is the state’s Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

An official stated that the identity of the arrested woman has not been disclosed yet. She was arrested by the local crime branch in Satara. According to the official, “The woman had demanded ₹3 crore to settle the matter. She was caught red-handed while accepting ₹1 crore. The police are questioning her.”

Opposition parties are demanding Gore’s resignation over allegations of harassing the woman and sending her objectionable pictures. However, the minister has denied the accusations, claiming that he was already acquitted by the court.

Gore had previously stated that a case was registered against him under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (outraging a woman’s modesty) in 2017, but a lower court acquitted him in 2019.
