Wear a mask or face a fine of Rs 5000/3 years in jail in Ahmedabad.

An official said that given the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, the civic body of the city has made it mandatory for people to wear masks since Monday, which will carry a fine of Rs 5,000 or a jail term of three years.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra said that in a bid to stop the spread of the deadly disease, an order has been issued under the Epidemic Diseases Act.

“From 6 am on Monday, everyone in the municipal limits of Ahmedabad city will inevitably wear masks when going out in public places. Those found without masks will be fined Rs 5,000. Those who collect fines Failure, he will be jailed for three years. ”She said.

He said that people can wear clothes made of masks or clothes available in the market, or even tie a handkerchief to cover the nose and mouth. The order would apply to public places, including hawkers, shopkeepers, and others, Nehra said, adding that he was 100 percent hopeful in complying with the order.

Ahmedabad reported 19 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the total number of such cases in the city being 266, the highest in Gujarat.

So far, 11 people have died due to the disease in the city.
