Tourists will soon get a good ride to the world-famous Ajanta Caves in Maharashtra, as the four-laning of the 150-km long Aurangabad-Jalgaon highway will be completed by the end of this year, an official said on Tuesday.
He said that the four-lane work is going on in full swing and a side carriageway will be completed by 31 March. Public Works Department Executive Engineer Jayant Chiwane said, “The work will be completed by December 31 this year. Traffic will not be disrupted on this route during the upcoming monsoon.
The widening of the Aurangabad-Sillod-Ajanta-Jalgaon road was scheduled to be completed in June last year but was delayed due to irregularities in the work by the contractor. Another official said that a new deadline for the work was set later and the four-lane work on this route would be completed by 31 December.
“Concertisation has gained momentum,” he said. The contractor is completing 800 meters of construction in a day. ”
Officials said that the number of tourists visiting the Ajanta caves is decreasing due to the poor condition of the connectivity route as its repair and widening work was delayed due to the lack of services of the contracting agency.
