Tomato flu has started taking children in its grip

/After monkeypox, the risk of tomato flu is also increasing. The Centre has recently issued a notification regarding hand foot and mouth disease or tomato flu. At the same time, according to the Department of Health and Family Welfare, it was first detected in Kolam district of Kerala from May 6. One of the major reasons for concern is that 26 children aged between 1 and 9 years have been affected by Tomato Flu in Odisha itself. Symptoms and Precautions of Tomato Flu

Symptoms

  • The symptoms of tomato flu are similar to some other viral infections. Feeling weak, body pain and rashes on the skin also come in the count of its symptoms.
  • Like its name, tomato-like red blisters have started coming out on the surface of the skin when tomato flu occurs. These rashes on different parts of the body start to heal automatically after a few days.
  • In the beginning, when there is tomato fever, fever starts coming, there is no desire to eat food, swelling is felt in the throat. Also, there may be blisters that can be seen on the tongue, gums, cheeks, palm and soles.
  • According to the notification, Tomato Flu is a clinical variant of hand foot and mouth disease. It mostly catches school-going children.


Precautions from Tomato Flu

  • One of the reasons for this flu spreading more in young children is that they take everything in the mouth. Infected and dirty things can make children suffer from tomato flu due to this habit. Try not to share their toys, clothes, etc. with infected children.
  • It is very important to keep cleanliness to prevent this. Children’s accessibility should be sanitized.
  • It is important to stay separate when there is an infection, to clean the body by dipping sponges in hot water.
