Thumbs down to Naxalism: Home Minister Amit shah asserts 43% reduction in violent incidents in last five years

It is a proud situation to see the decreasing graph of violent incidents in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas. Today, Home Minister Amit held a review meeting in New Delhi on the security situation in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas and development initiatives being undertaken there. Chief Ministers of Left Wing Extremism affected states are taking part in the meeting.

Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar (Bihar), Naveen Patnaik (Odisha), Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Kamal Nath (Madhya Pradesh), Raghubar Das (Jharkhand) and Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh) attended the meeting.

Apart from them, Union Ministers and Secretaries of several ministries, senior officials of Home Ministry and security agencies also participated in the meeting. Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of LWE affected states are also present. The last five years have seen a significant improvement in the LWE scenario across the country. There has been a substantial decrease in LWE-related violence since 2016.

As per latest Home Ministry data, the numbers of violent incidents have reduced by 43 per cent and resultant deaths by 61 percent during last five years as compared to the preceding five-year period from 2009 to 13. Also, 8,782 cases of Naxal violence were reported during 2009-13 as against 4,969 during 2014-18, a reduction of 43.4%.
