Second consecutive year, Parliament winter session to kick start from December 11

New Delhi: Announcing the bugle for upcoming winter session, the parliament will begin the session from December 11. It is the day when the counting of votes for the Assembly Elections will begin for five states. The session will conclude on January 8. The polling air will undoubtedly set the atmosphere of the parliament session.

A recommendation to this effect was made by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs Tuesday. The beginning of the session would coincide with the counting of votes for assembly elections in five states Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. The outcome of these elections is expected to determine the mood of the members during the proceedings.

The government would push for the passage of the Triple Talaq bill pending in the Rajya Sabha. It had promulgated an ordinance to make the practice of instant triple talaq a penal offence. The government also wants the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance to be passed as bills in this session.

This will be the last full-fledged session of Parliament for the Narendra Modi government before the completion of its five-year term. The two Houses are expected to be adjourned on the first day after paying tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpyaee and Ananth Kumar, who held the office of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

The Winter session usually starts at the beginning of the fourth week of November and ends before Christmas. It would be the second consecutive year when it would begin in December and continue into January.
