Relief to onion farmers in the state; Concessional grant of Rs 300 per quintal – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced in the Assembly

Mumbai, Dt. 13
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today announced in the Legislative Assembly to provide a subsidy of Rs 300 per quintal to provide relief to the onion farmers who are in trouble.
While making a statement in the Legislative Assembly in this regard, Chief Minister Shinde said, the arrival of red onion during Kharif season is on a large scale. Due to the increase in onion production in other states of the country, the demand is less than the supply. Due to this, the price of onion has fallen. Since onion is a perishable crop, minimum support price cannot be applied to it. Onion is an important cash crop in Maharashtra and its price is a very sensitive part of the relationship for onion producing farmers.
Onion production in the country, its domestic demand and exports from the country, etc. all affect the price of onion in the market. A committee was appointed by the state government to provide relief to the productive farmers. The committee had recommended Rs.200 and Rs.300 per quintal. But the Chief Minister informed that this government will stand by the side of onion producing farmers and has decided to give Rs 300 per quintal as concessional subsidy to them.
