Police said on Tuesday that a convict has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Pune’s Yerwada Jail.
Kashinath Palwa (55), a resident of Vikramgarh in Palghar district of Maharashtra, was serving a life sentence after being convicted in a murder case, said Hemant Katkar, a public relations officer of Palghar District Rural Police.
He said the convict was given parole and should have returned to prison on 28 September, adding that Palwa, however, suffered a stroke of paralysis and was treated.
As he failed to report at the Yerwada Open Jail, located outside the Yerwada Central Jail, the Vikramgarh police registered an offense under Section 224 (resistance or hindrance to his legitimate apprehension by a person) of the Indian Penal Code, the officer said.
