More than two-thirds of the Rs 3.62 lakh crore (over Rs 2.41 lakh crore) notes have been deposited in banks in a month after the RBI’s decision to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes from circulation.
The decision to withdraw Rs 2000 notes from circulation was taken on May 19. As of March 2023, a total of Rs 3.62 lakh crore worth of Rs 2000 notes were in circulation.
The Reserve Bank has appealed to deposit these notes in the bank or exchange them with other notes of the same value by September 30.
