Karnataka to accord Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti Award to JD(S) Chief HD Devegowda

Bengaluru: Recognizing the contribution of former Prime Minister and JD(S) National Chief HD Deve Gowda towards the welfare of weaker section of the society, HD Kumaraswamy led Congress- JD(S) has decided to accord with the prestigious Maharishi Valmiki Award for 2018-19.

Earlier in the day, Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge made an official announced about the same. The Minister called on Devegowda and invited for the award function which will be held tomorrow at Vidhana Soudha.

Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti Award is a brain-child of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. The award was initiated as a mark of respect towards Maharshi Valmiki, the man behind India’s epic tale Ramayana. HD Devegowda’s name was proposed by the state government appointed panel chaired by retired Karnataka High Court Judge Justice HN Nagamohan Das.

HD Devegowda is the national president of Karnataka’s ruling Party Janata Dal (Secular). The former Prime Minister is the member of the upper house and represents Hassan Lok Sabha Segment.
