Indian colours portrayed in Beijing citing the occasion of New Year

With a step further to enhance the diplomatic relations with the neighbouring countries, China yesterday organised the a cultural program citing the occasion of New Year. ‘Colours of India’, a cultural program presenting the Indian art of classical dance and music was hosted by the Embassy of India and Beijing Personnel Service Corporation for Diplomatic Mission.

The event featured a variety of Indian Music, Dance, Yoga performances and a Photo Exhibition on ‘Life and Times of Mahatma Gandhi’ and ‘Yoga around the world’. The Embassy of India to China today shared a tweet saying, “2019 starts in Beijing with Colors of India! A cultural evening of Indian classical dance and music was co-organized by @EOIBeijing and Beijing Personnel Service Corporation for Diplomatic Missions on 4 January. Cd’A Dr Vimal welcomed the gathering at the unique event.”

Cultural and economic relations between China and India date back to ancient times. The first records of contact between China and India were written during the 2nd century BCE. To promote Indian art and culture, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centreof Embassy of India, Beijing runs Music, Dance and Yoga classes and regularly organizes a variety of cultural activities.

Music, Dance and Yoga classes are held at the Cultural Centre five days a week. Experienced teachers appointed by ICCR conduct these classes. Many students who had learned music or dance at the Cultural Centre participate in cultural events organised by the Centre.

“Culture Centre takes the lead role in promoting Yoga. Over the years, a large number of Chinese Yoga lovers have participated in our Yoga events to mark the International Day of Yoga. This year more than 1000 Chinese nationals participated. Events included: First International Day of Yoga event at SCO Headquarters, Yoga event at Longfu Temple, a Buddhist Temple in nearby province of Hebei, Main Yoga event at India House, Special Yoga Workshops at Embassy as well as at local Yoga institutes. Our Yoga teacher is closely involved in conducting these events. From time to time thematic yoga workshops are organized by the Culture Centre.”, quoted the official at Embassy of India at Beijing.
