Gujarat downpours..! Bereaved families to get ex-gratia of 2 lakh from PM National Relief Fund

Approving an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to unseasonal rain and storms in various parts of Gujarat, PM Narendra Modi expressed deep concern for the bereaved families.

“Anguished by the loss of lives due to unseasonal rains and storms in various parts of Gujarat. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Authorities are monitoring the situation very closely. All possible assistance is being given to those affected”, he tweeted in relation.

This is after a sudden change in weather on Tuesday afternoon with rains hitting many parts of the state. While it brought relief from the blistering heat, strong winds, dust storms and lightning strikes killed at least 11 people.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the light to moderate rain or thunderstorms were likely in districts of north Gujarat, namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Kheda.

It was also stated that maximum temperature would drop by 2-3 degree Celsius across the region over the next 24 hours, after which, it would rise again by 2-3 degrees.

For Ahmedabad, the Met department forecast was partly cloudy skies with possibility of rain or thundershower. “Maximum temperature however is expected to remain around 37 degree Celsius while minimum temperature could be around 26 degree Celsius in the state”, the department claimed.
