An official said that a 20-year-old fireman belonging to Thane Civic Fire Services suffered serious head injuries while an explosion occurred on Friday in Mumbra town in Thane district, Maharashtra.

Santosh Kadam, head of Disaster Management Cell of Thane Metropolitan Municipality, said the incident took place at around 7.15 pm on Thursday evening when fire personnel reported a fire in a fourth-floor flat in Mobin Apartments.
He said two fire engines were put into service, after which fireman Moeen Sheikh, who was operating the Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) jet, fell and suffered a head injury.

The officer said that Sheikh was initially rushed to a nearby civil hospital, but was later shifted to KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where he is undergoing treatment.
