A fire broke out at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plant in Mahul area of suburban Chembur on Tuesday afternoon, an official said. No casualties were reported in the accident.

An official of the control room of the city civic body said that an air compressor at the main gate of the BPCL plant exploded around 12.40 pm. Thick black smoke was seen coming out of the plant.
“It was a minor fire. No one was injured,” the officer said, adding that the blast was immediately extinguished by BPCL employees.

He said that all agencies including the Mumbai Fire Bridge were mobilized as soon as the blast was received. He said that the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
