EC to webcast poll proceedings at 14 thousand polling booths during assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat has said that proceedings at 14,000 polling booths during assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will be webcast.

On Wednesday, he said, the measure is being taken as part of efforts to ensure free and fair elections. Rawat and two Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa were on a 2-day visit to Madhya Pradesh to review preparations for November 28 assembly polls.

Chief Election Commissioner said some political parties suggested that recounting should be conducted by default if the victory margin is less than one thousand.

They also demanded installation of CCTV cameras at all polling booths so that persons who vote for more than once can be identified, the CEC said. Rawat said, for the first time in Madhya Pradesh, Election Commission will appoint accessibility observers who will help differently-abled or Divyang persons at polling booths.

2932 candidates have been left in the fray after withdrawal of nominations for assembly elections. The state will go to polls on the 28th of this month to elect a new 230-member assembly.

“According to the official information, the highest number of candidates are 158 in Rewa district and 13 is the lowest number in Alirazpur district after the withdrawal of nomination in the assembly elections.
