Jharkhand will start the annual renewal of ration cards through under e-know your customer (e-KYC) process from March gradually in a phase-wise manner. This decision was taken on Wednesday.
State food and civic supplies minister, Saryu Roy on Wednesday said that annual renewal of cards under e-know your customer (e-KYC) process will begin in a phase-wise manner.
“We have decided to start the annual renewal of ration cards through the e-KYC process from March gradually in a phase-wise manner. The process would be similar to the KYC verification process done in banks to verify details of their customers. The beneficiary families just have to go to the public distribution supply (PDS) dealers once in a year and verify their biometric credentials. This will end many irregularities and anomalies,” said Roy.
The minister further said that in December 2018 he had a meeting with Union food and public distribution minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
“During my meet, I had requested the minister to direct Food Corporation of India (FCI) management to make packets of 5 kg, 10 kg and 30 kg for food grains from the FCI godown itself which would minimize complaints of distribution of less amount of food grains to beneficiaries by PDS dealers. The minister had then assured of taking it up with FCI management,” said Roy.
The minister said that under the National Food Security Act, nearly 2.64-crore people are provided food grains in the state.
Sharing plans to help agriculture the Minister said that he has already written to the Chief Minister last year and had even reminded the Chief Minister again during the cabinet meeting on Sunday about giving a bonus to farmers for each quintal of paddy. He suggested of giving Rs 200 bonus to farmers on every quintal of paddy purchase by the government.
The minister said that such probe is being organized throughout the state amongst PDS dealers to eliminate fear amongst people.
